No Spend Challenges are Freakin Hard!

So..lets' get straight to the point.  The No Spend Challenge (NSC from now on) was not a success.  After five days of raiding the garden, searching through the cupboards and freezer, making do or substituting we gave in and did a HUGE weekend shop.
In our defense though, there was a few things that led to this(excuses?..maybe, maybe not).  Firstly, I had to prepare for the following week of being home by myself with the kiddies and I really, really hate going to the shop after work with the little people in tow to get supplies and then still come home to prepare it, eat it, do bath time, bed time and everything else in-between.  It's much better when I meal prepare ahead and have everything on hand.  Secondly, what was I thinking! - I chose the month end week for the NSC..that would have meant missing out on month end specials.  Thirdly, I was tempted with some really good savings on Snap n Save - like 30% cash back on Saldhana Middle Cut tin fish which could have been used for up to 5 cans. Useful and super yummy for tinfish fishcakes and tinfish breyani.  Lastly, I discovered the wonderful world of mark downs at Checkers - who doesn't love stuff for up to 50% or more? - If you choose wisely, there are bargains to be had.  I got boxes of beautiful vine tomatoes at R10 a box - they went straight into the fridge to stop the ripening and a week later are still looking good, 2 chorizo sausages for R20 which was a few days away from sell-by so that went straight into the freezer along with some herby butter baby potatoes - just some of the goodies I bought at reduced prices.  I don't consider this NSC to be a complete failure - I mean, we made it to 5 days, thought a bit more about meal planning and had less wastage of food.  I am super ready to try it again.
